Our soap is handcrafted in small batches using only high quality ingredients that are both beneficial and recognizable. Each recipe begins with premium plant oils, along with skin nourishing butters, such as mango, shea and cocoa. Next, we scent our soap with pure essential oils (no fragrance oils here!) and then add clays, herbs, botanicals and spices for color and texture. Finally, we hand pour and cut each batch, letting the bars cure to a hefty 4 - 4.5 ounces over a period of a few weeks. We do not use animal fats in any of our products, nor do we test on animals (except our dirty family & friends!). Most of our soaps are vegan, however, there is the occasional animal byproduct, such as goat milk or honey, but don't worry, it's always on the label when this is the case!
Here at Boh Bon Soap Company we are inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us and we are committed to being a friend to the earth and doing what we can to help sustain it. To us, there is nothing better than a natural start or end to the day. We hope you enjoy our products as much as we enjoy creating them, and invite you to adopt our mantra and take some time to…

Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our soap, along with our answers of course!
Q: What do you mean when you say you use only "natural" ingredients?
The term "natural" is tossed around pretty loosely these days, and is certainly left open to interpretation. To us natural means, simple, fresh & real. We don't use synthetic fragrances, preservatives, dyes, or harsh chemicals in our products and we use organic ingredients when possible. Sure, maybe using only natural ingredients means we can't make products that smell like pina coladas or chocolate chip cookies, but truth be told... we're okay with that.
Q: Can I use your soap if I have sensitive skin?
Well, we can't guarantee it, but everything that goes into our products is very gentle and pure. Many skin sensitivities are affected by synthetic ingredients and you won't find those here! We have many extremely gentle options and we love to give recommendations, so please ask if you have any questions!
Q: If your soaps contain glycerin, why aren't they clear?
It's true that many glycerin soaps are transparent, however the making of this type of soap means adding alcohol to the process to achieve transparency. Alcohol can dry the skin, and we feel this is just another thing our skin can do without. Our soaps are made through the age old "cold process" method and they retain their natural glycerin through this.
Q: Does your soap contain Lye?
Lye is a necessary ingredient in the soap making process, so yes we do use it. The chemical reaction that occurs between lye (alkali) and oils (fat) is what creates soap. However, through the 21-30 day curing time that cold process soap requires, the lye is completely cured out of the remaining product and the end result is the soap we sell.
Q: Have you seen the movie 'FIGHT CLUB'?
Yes! (let's face it, men are the only ones who ever ask this question!)

Boh Bon Soap Company was founded in the summer of 2006 by Chrissy Wilbee. After more than 6 years of traveling around the world for her job, Chrissy returned to her roots in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to follow her dream and start a cottage industry handcrafted soap company - on the site of her family’s summer cottage - full of natural inspirations, cherished memories and definitely on the other side of the world from where she had been.
While some might say Chrissy took the long road home, it was her time on the road that provided much of the inspiration for Boh Bon Soap Co. and since filling her suitcase with soap from every city and country she visited wasn’t an option, Chrissy finally decided to buy a one way ticket and head home - although she still doesn’t go anywhere without her passport - because you just never know!
Tucked along the shoreline of Little Bay De Noc and nestled under a cluster of pines, you will find the Boh Bon workshop where Chrissy’s creations come to fruition. Always a travel girl at heart who just can’t seem to sit still, these days Chrissy can be found in Detroit too, still stirring up soap, but splitting her time between the serenity of the North woods and the lure of the city. In addition to her travel memories, Chrissy draws upon the natural beauty that surrounds her to inspire, as well as to reinforce her commitment to producing environmentally responsible products. At Boh Bon, natural means no synthetic fragrances or fillers and while it may mean that some scents are simply not possible, the benefits of a truly natural product line far outweigh a faux and frilly scented soap.
While Chrissy can most often be found in her workshop outfitted in a vintage kitchen apron creating the Boh Bon product line, she does still enjoy traveling (with a lot less luggage) and often packs up to sell her suds and such at various art fairs & festivals. Although most days, she’s quite content curling up with a good book and glass of wine and learning what happens if she simply stays put long enough to appreciate the grass that just might grow under her feet.

Boh Bon? It sounds like nonsense, a made up name with no meaning behind it, right? We get called “Bon Bon” a lot, and most people are hesitant when they do say it out loud… BOH BON? Always with an implied question mark.
So, where did the name come from and what does it mean?
Well, let me tell you…
While growing up in the small town of Escanaba, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, my Grandfather owned a small grocery store. It was a neighborhood joint that sold staple groceries, the local newspaper, penny candy and much more. It was my grandparent’s livelihood and home with many long hours spent, from dawn ‘til much past dusk, tending to it.
That little corner grocery store was called the “Hob Nob” and from my earliest memory, I thought it to be a fantastic place (a great part of this due to my love of penny candy I am sure).
Many years later, the Hob Nob grocery store is gone, but through a funny little play on words it gains new life, in a new way. That’s right BOH BON is simply the words HOB NOB turned backwards. It is a small tribute to the entrepreneurial spirit that was instilled into me, as well as my family, an homage to a man who taught us all to work hard, be honest and most of all to have the courage to live your dreams.
There you have it… the simple little story about our funny little name.
